Alumni Gatherings

The Alumni Association encourages alumni to plan and participate in Alumni Gatherings all over the country.

Rather than organize by region, we look at our alumni population in terms of Hubs. A Hub is an area with a concentration of alumni large enough to host an event. When a Hub has an event, all alumni are invited and welcome to attend, not just those in the Hub area.

Alumni Celebration

The Alumni Celebration is a cornerstone event at the annual Spalding MFA Homecoming. Thanks to the publishing success of our 600+ alumni, we often receive more requests for inclusion than the session can accommodate. If your publication or production meets the criteria, (and please let us know if you have suggestions for improving them), you can apply for a slot by completing a brief application form at the bottom of this page.

This is not a contest, and the homecoming committee does not review the contents of works to determine their inclusion. Instead, the criteria are designed to provide a representative sampling of the wonderful works produced by Spalding MFA alumni.

Homecoming is an event planned by alums for alums, with the cooperation of the MFA Program, for the final weekend of each spring residency. This is a chance for our alumni to reconnect, meet recent graduates, and celebrate their accomplishments together. Some of the events that take place during homecoming include: workshops, readings, a Celebration of Recently Published Works by Alumni, a book expo, a film and play festival, social events, and more.

Residencies Abroad

Each summer, Spalding low residency MFA students, faculty, and alums serving as post-graduate assistants (PGRAs) travel and explore different location abroad, learning about craft, as well as the literary and cultural highlights of their locale.

Some of our locations include Paris, London, Rome, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Edinburgh, and we are excited to announce our next destination will be Osaka, Japan in 2018!
