2019 Fall Residency Alumni Opportunity #4

Traditional Full-residency Workshops (Nov. 15-24)

We’re always happy to welcome alums back to residency as workshop participants. Faculty-led residency workshops offer a great way to return to your Spalding roots and gain the feedback and inspiration you need—and you’re welcome to workshop in any genre, no matter what you studied as a student. Alums who sign up for residency attend as students and have access to all the same events, including arts excursions and meals.

Residency begins Friday afternoon with the Welcome Dinner, where you’ll dine with your workshop group at the Brown Hotel. The featured area is writing for children & young adults, and the Residency Book in Common is the two-volume graphic novel Boxers & Saints by Gene Luen Yang. We’ll spend an afternoon at Bernheim Forest (https://bernheim.org/forest-giants-officially-invade-bernheim-forest/) and take a morning excursion to the Kentucky Center for the Arts for a concert by the Louisville Orchestra, followed by lunch on your own at a nearby restaurant. Our Celebration of Recently Published Books will include readings by Kenny Cook, Helena Kriel, Keith Wilson, and Katy Yocom. The SpaldingCon reception for alumni, faculty, and staff will take place on the last Friday evening.

Space in these workshops is limited, as determined by student enrollment. If you’re interested, email schoolofwriting@spalding.edu between August 15 and September 15 to be placed on a waitlist for a specific workshop. In the subject line, include your name and “Workshop with [last name of leader].” In the body of the email, you can list more than one choice for workshop leader if you like.

We’ll notify participants of a place in the workshop by September 19 and include information about submitting the Worksheet (due October 2) and making payment (due October 15).

The cost for a full-residency workshop is $1,755 and includes a double room at the Brown Hotel for nine nights (November 15-24). Additional nights are available for $110 per night. A single-room upgrade is available for an additional $200.
